Transformation Leadership Program ; UMP “Cakna” Out Campus Students Life
To ensure that UMP students have the best experience during campus life, a Transformation Leadership Program (TLP) among out campus students was held from 11 March to 26 May 2017. Such a program was held with the aim to make the challenge of staying outside of the campus as the best platform for these students to develop their leadership potential.
The atmosphere of life among out campus students are different compared to students’ who live in hostels provided by the university with all the basic facilities. Therefore, students’ life in hostel are more conducive, safe and convenience as it is near to academic area. Meanwhile, the basic facilities for out campus students, are normally at the near minimum par. Therefore, to live a life as out campus students is becoming a big challenge for them. Their life could be terrible if there is no leadership skill and good cooperation among them to manage their life. Furthermore, this situation indirectly and directly give impact on out campus students’ academic achievement. Therefore, a proper program and guidance to strengthen students’ spiritual intelligence and social skill is needed.
The Dean of Modern Language and Human Sciences Center (CLMS), initiated this program as one of students intervention program under Soft Skills Department. This program exposes students with knowledge in spiritual intelligence to develop students’ awareness about the real purpose of life. This will give an impact to their internal strength and transform into real life which is accounted as social responsibility as a leader. Therefore, UMP's out campus students are trained to empower self-leadership and act upon it to transform themselves based on their self-awareness and not because of the rules and regulation set by the authority. Furthermore, the students also go through individual biofeedback intervention session to help them to understand themselves and their potential to transform their life. The experience they gain throughout this program will prepare students to manage their life and success when they go into the real world.
The director of the Program, Mr. Muhd. Arash Shahnan Bin Mansor stated that the students get many benefits from this program such as help them to understand the meaning of life and improve their social relations between housemates. Before following this program we rarely spend time together and sometimes had misunderstanding between us. We also learn to transform the way of our life internally and externally as muslims who live as out campus UMP students. In fact, our home is now more organized and clean. We also realize, the strength of every housemate in giving ideas to manage our house. The challenge that was given to us during this program enhances our creativity to create a few simple innovation products such as shoes rack, plastic container and etc. from natural and waste materials, which we had never thought before.
In order to appreciate the students' efforts, these students celebrated in the Opening Ceremony of the out campus Student Leadership Transformation Program, which was held on May 26 at Block WDKU-K01 UMP Gambang.
