Mandarin Certificate Awarding Ceremony
On 2 April 2014, Mandarin Language and Culture Centre (MLCC) organized a Mandarin Certificate Awarding Ceremony which was held at Banquet Hall, Chancellor Building, Universiti Malaysia Pahang.A total of 50 candidates, who had completed Mandarin courses on September 2013 until February 2014, were rewarded Mandarin certificate in this ceremony. Below is the list of the courses and the number of partipants.
“Conversational Mandarin” : 34 staff of Kuantan Port Consortium (KPC) Sdn Bhd
“Conversational Mandarin 1” : 14 UMP students
“Conversational Mandarin 2”: 2 UMP students
The opening ceremony was officiated by representative of Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Abd Jalil Bin Borham, Dean of Centre for Modern Languages and Human Sciences (CMLHS). He highlighted that learning Mandarin for working adults and non-Chinese students is a challenge as it requires effective time management and the ability to relate a foreign language to one's mother tongue.
In his welcoming speech, Chong Ah Kow, MLCC Director, encouraged all the participants to continue using Mandarin regularly as language is a skill that can only be perfected through continuos practice. Thus, MLCC welcomes KPC to enroll in the Mandarin Twinning Programme and grab the golden opportunity to learn Mandarin from the natives in China.
Also present at the opening ceremony were Azahari Bin Muhammad Yusof, general manager of KPC, Mohd Mahayudin Bin Mohd Hashim, assistant manager of KPC, Dr. Norrihan Binti Sulan, Deputy Dean of CMLHS (Academic), Yong Ying Mei, Mandarin subject coordinator, Kang Mei Feng and Peng Anqi, Mandarin language teacher(CMLHS).
