Duanwu Jie (Hanzi: 端午节) or famously known as Peh Cun festival among the Chinese is one of the important festivals in Chinese culture and history. Qu Yuan (339 BC - 277 BC) was a minister of Chu in the Warring States period. He was a talented and loyal officer who had given ideas to further develop Chu. He also helped Chu to unite with Qi in a battle against Qin. Unfortunately, he was criticized by the royal family that resulted in his exile from the capital of Chu. He, who was worried about Chu’s future, finally decided to commit suicide by jumping into the Miluo river on the 5th of May. This unfortunate ending was recorded in the history book of Shi Ji.
