PRE-SESSIONAL ENGLISH COURSE (PEC)
This programme is prepared for international postgraduate students who have no English qualification or those equivalents to it as required by the university. The qualification required is IELTS Band 5.0 or TOFEL 500. The certificate is valid for 2 years from the date of authorisation and date of registration. The rules do not apply to native language speaker; however, they need to show written evidence of English qualification from previous schooling years. International undergraduates or Master students who did their study in Malaysia are exempted from this course. Hence, student who does not have any paper qualification in regards to their English qualification need to undergo Pre-Sessional English Course (PEC). Students are required to sit for a pre-test to determine their level of proficiency. This programme is conducted at UMP Pekan.
This programme is aimed to:
1. Develop students’ ability to communicate in English
2. Enhance students’ vocabulary and academic study skills
3. Build the students’ confidence when using the language
Student will undergo three modules; those who failed the pre-test will be placed in Module 1 (Proficiency). Students who obtained grade B (65-69) UMP Grading and above will be placed in Module 2 (Academic) and upon passing module 2 will advance to Module 3 (Enhancement). Students need to PASS EACH MODULE (grade B) before advancing to the next module. Certificate of completion of PEC will be awarded once the whole program is completed.
The program will be conducted for a period of 6 weeks for each session. The program comprises reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar components.
PEC program is conducted for postgraduates’ students whose education background do not emphasize on English language. To address the language deficit, PEC is a requirement as a preparation course to reinforce language proficiency before enrolling to the mainstream.
International Postgraduate students:
RM 2100 per module. Students are required to pay RM6300 upon registration for all three modules.
