Synopsis

This course primarily aims to equip students with the basic principles of communication at the workplace. Students will be exposed to the principles of writing and reading pre-formatted job application documents and practical aspects of oral presentation skills. Students will experience job application process by practising telephoning skills, writing cover letter, resume, recording video resume and attending mock job interview. In addition, students will also collect company profiles through a visit to industry and transfer the information into a report.

Objectives

By the end of semester, students should be able to:

  1. Compose various job application documents using accurate language and appropriate format;
  2. Demonstrate the ability to present and communicate effectively in interview and oral presentation;
  3. Transfer information accurately from telephone conversation; and
  4. Organise and transfer findings into a report using accurate language.
