Mandarin Speaking Contest 2016
On 23 March 2016, Centre for Modern Languages and Human Sciences (CMLHS) in collaboration with Mandarin Language and Culture Centre (MLCC) and Mandarin Language Society (MLS) had organized the Mandarin Speaking Contest. It was held at the Mini Theatre, UMP Gambang Campus.
A total of 47 non-Chinese students registered for the contest. The contest inspired the participants to use the Mandarin language and enhanced their skills in public speaking. This competition was also a platform in preparing participants for the Chinese Bridge Competition.
Dr Hai Tao, Ms Yong Ying Mei, Mdm Kang Mei Feng, Mr Chong Ah Kow, Ms Sun Yun Feng and Ms Wang Wen Ying were among the judges for the competition.
In line with the title “My Views on China”, the contestants were allowed to relate to any cultures of China. They were given two minutes to deliver their speeches.
The first prize was won by Sayyidatina Al Hurul Aina Binti Alzahari, a third year UMP student. “I have never expect to be the champion in this contest. I am very thankful to my Mandarin lecturer who help me a lot in preparing for this contest” she said. Sayyidatina said that the contest was interesting and really benefitted the students.
