Exploring Editing Images Programme
2 November 2016 – Five undergraduates from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) had successfully conducted the ‘Exploring Editing Images’ programme as part of the project for Soft Skills 2 subject. The programme was led by Muhammad Aliff Faisal Bin Roeslan with the assistance of Mohd Izzul Bin Jamaluddin, Nurul Nazihah Binti Shukor, Wan Nur Asyikin Binti Wan Ab Razak, Ain Nurfarhana Binti Ahmad Hisham and Nurul Shafikah Binti Mohd Shahrullail. The programme was officiated by Mr Tengku Abd Rashid Bin Tengku Othman, the Counselling teacher of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Gambang. 18 Form Three students from SMK Gambang participated in the programme which aimed at creating awareness, providing exposure and giving encouragement to students in rural areas to discover more about computer technology.
The one-day programme was divided into two sessions. The morning session was allocated at introducing and teaching the students on the basics of creating poster and using Prezi in creating an effective mind map. The afternoon session was when the fun really began. Students applied the knowledge they had gained during the morning session through an interactive group activity in producing an interesting mind map. The feedbacks from the participants were positive. Both the organisers and the participants were able to gain precious experience and knowledge from this programme. Muhammad Alif Faisal Bin Roeslan said that “as a team, we are able to improve not only our communication skills, but also our leadership skills which are vital in conducting the programme successfully”.
Besides, their involvement in the programme enabled them to enhance their critical thinking and problem solving skills. On top of that, the team was also able to learn the value of time management as proper time allocation for planning and execution enabled the smooth flow of the programme. Ain Nurfarhana Binti Ahmad Hisham, the secretary of the programme said that “we are proud of what we have achieved with the programme”. The programme not only provided an opportunity for the six UMP students to contribute to the society but it also managed to pave a path for UMP students to learn and apply the elements of soft skills in their daily lives. The programme ended with a closing ceremony which included a prize-giving session to the chosen participants. Gifts were also given to the participants, Mr Tengku Abd Rashid Bin Tengku Othman and to the school for the opportunity in organizing the one-day programme.
