Book Recycling Program
22 February 2017 – The Mandarin Language Society (MLS) of Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) has organized a Book Recycling Programme at the UMP Pekan Library. The ceremony was officiated by Tuan Haji Ruslan B. Che Pee, the UMP Chief Librarian. Also present were the Pahang Library Chief (PPAP) named Puan Hajah Faridzah Binti Jaafar; a PPAP librarian, Puan Maria Bt Hamzah; Mrs. Lim Lee Chern, Principal of SJK(C) Yoke Hwa Kuala Pahang; Mrs. Lim Yu Yan, Head of Mandarin Department, SJK(C) Kong Min (Kuantan); and Madam Kang Mei Feng, a Mandarin language teacher affiliated with the Centre for Modern Languages & Human Sciences (CMLHS).
The main objective of this program other than to achieve the 3R concept of reduce, reuse and recycle, is to instil awareness on the significance of book recycling and how it could deliberately lead to having a conducive and positive learning environment. Astoundingly, the UMP Mandarin Language Society had collected 1981 books and all were donated to Perbadanan Perpustakaan Awam Pahang, SJK(C) Kong Min, SJK(C) Yoke Hwa, SJK (C) Kemasul, and the UMP library. This program should be a year round agenda so as to foster a continuous effort on book recycling and sharing platforms besides cultivating the importance of reading among UMP students and staff including its surrounding communities.
