English Sweat Challenge 2018
Pekan, 8th November 2018 – One of the Cluster Schools of Excellent in English Language which is Sekolah Kebangsaan Selancar 3, Muadzam Shah has jointly ventured with Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP), Pekan campus to organize an English language program. The Department of English Language, Center for Modern Languages and Human Sciences (CMLHS) and Department of Academic and International Affairs (JHEAA) had contributed significantly to the success of this program. This one-day program was directed by Pn Rosnani Ismail and assisted by Pn Nurul Nadia Muhammad (Deputy Director), JHEAA staff, DEL staff, school teachers as well as facilitators. Facilitators were recruited among UMP students and they had shown their full commitment and co-operation throughout the entire program.
The main objective of this program was to enhance the participants’ English proficiency through various ways, specifically in a more entertaining way. In the morning session, while seven school teachers were attending a knowledge sharing session entitled “Gamifying Your Classroom” conducted by Mr. Mohd Shafeirul Zaman bin Abd Majid, Senior English Teacher from UMP, 70 pupils from standard three, four, five and six were participating in English Sweat Challenge. The pupils were divided into 7 groups with 10 members for each group. This program required the pupils to compete among the groups. They had had to complete all the 7 checkpoints and the top 3 fastest groups to complete all the tasks would be the winners. Each of the checkpoint was provided with different kinds of activities including jigsaw puzzle, crossword puzzle, charade, broken phone, draw and guess the word, short story and matching activities.
In the second part of the event, the teachers and pupils had the opportunity to visit UMP Library and CMLHS Labs. They were guided by the librarians to tour around the library to visit the facilities and equipment provided. For the lab visit, they were shown the available English software that is currently used in the teaching and learning process. At the end of the program, closing and prize giving ceremony were officiated by Dr. Anita binti Abdul Rani as CMLHS Head of Soft Skills Department. The day ended smoothly with presentation of certificates, prizes and exchange of souvenirs from schools involved and UMP.
