EDMODO: Enriching The Learning Experiences of Students from SMK Sungai Isap
21 October 2016 – Seven students from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) had successfully conducted the ‘ADVANCED MEDIUM FOR EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY (EDMODO)’ programme as part of their project for Soft Skills 2 subject. The programme was led by Muhammad Naqiuddin bin Omar. Other team members included Umi Nadhira binti Abdul Majid, Siti Filza binti Saharin, Nur Syafiqah Adni binti Ismail, Muhammad Farihan Azlan bin Kamaruzaman, Muhammad Aniff bin Mohmad Saleh and Adilah Azizah binti Jaafarali . The programme was officiated by Hajah Norliza bt Ghazali, the Principal of SMK Sungai Isap. One hundred and fifty, Form Three students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Isap participated in the programme which aimed at creating awareness, providing exposure and giving encouragement to students, especially in rural areas, to discover more about computer technology.
The half day programme were divided into three sessions. The three sessions were introduction to Edmodo, how to use Edmodo and a Q&A session. The Edmodo introductory session, which was devoted to introduce and teach students the basics of Edmodo, was carried out for one hour between 9 am until 10 am. Session on how to use Edmodo were conducted with the aid of facilitators in order to add to students’ understanding on the ways to use Edmodo. Students used the knowledge they had acquired during the introduction and how to use Edmodo session to ask various questions in the Q&A session. Feedbacks from the participants of the programme were positive. Both the organizers and the participants gained valuable experience and knowledge from this programme. Muhammaad Naqiuddin bin Omar, the leader of the programme, said that "as a team, we must have trust and a high level of understanding towards members of the team in order to conduct a successful programme. In addition, we are also able to improve our communication skills which is much needed in today’s technologically driven world of 21st century".
Besides, the involvement in the programme enabled the team to enhance their leadership skills as well as their critical thinking and problem solving skills. On top of that, the team was also able to learn the value of time management as proper time allocation for planning and execution enabled the smooth flow of the programme. Umi Nadhira Binti Abdul Majid, the secretary of the programme, added that “we are able to further develop our teamworking skills by working effectively with all the members in the team regardless of the different skill sets, personalities, work styles, or motivation level that we might have”. She also added “we are inspired to work together to achieve the best result for the whole team and we are proud of what we have achieved with the programme”. The programme not only provided an opportunity for the seven UMP students to contribute to the society but it also managed to pave a path for UMP students to learn and apply the elements of soft skills in their daily lives. The programme ended with a closing ceremony where certificates of participation and a token of appreciation were given to the participants and to Hajah Norliza Bt Ghazali, the Principal of SMK Sungai Isap.
