Prezi Workshop: A Creative and Interactive Learning Experience with students of SMK Paya Besar, Kuantan.
14th October 2016 – A group of six undergraduates from Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) had successfully completed a Prezi Workshop under Soft Skills 2 course project at SMK Paya Besar, Kuantan. The team was led by Nur Syazana Rosdi with the assistance of Hairul Bariyah Mohammad, Siti Masharidha Mat Rifa, Siti Maisarah Shohti, Abdul Aziz Salem Saeed Makhshen and Osamah Najib Saleh Alwaeel. They were accompanied by their Advisor, Ms Jamilah Bebe Mohamed. The participants of this programme were 30 students of Form Four Saksama from SMK Paya Besar who were accompanied by their Biology and Additional Mathematics teachers, Mrs Mariani Muda and Mrs Nor Nini respectively. The main objectives of this programme were to create awareness and provide guidance for using technological tools such as Prezi, in their daily lives as students. Prezi is a tool that had been developed as an alternative for presenting data in a more creative and interactive way.
This programme was held at the SMK Paya Besar ICT Laboratory as computers and internet connection were required. The program started at 9 a.m. and ended three hours later. Before the practical session started, the UMP facilitators introduced the topic on Prezi and distributed practical training modules to all the students. They were then given two hours to complete the task of presenting various Biology related topics using Prezi with the asisstance of the facilitators. Participants later presented the outcomes of their task. The objectives of the presentation were to enhance students’ confidence level in presenting to an audience as well as showcasing their new found skills. The UMP facilitators were glad to receive positive feedbacks from the students and teachers that Prezi was really helpful in their Biology learning process. They pledged to continue using it in the future as it was a simple tool to utilise and more interactive than conventional method.
As for UMP students, they realised that this programme enhanced their communication skills with the communities and cooperation given by all of the parties involved will never be forgotten. They were grateful for the opportunity to be involved in the community service and the experience in working together as a team. The programme ended with a closing ceremony where certificates were given to facilitators and tokens of appreciation were given to the Principal, teachers and students.
