First Year Seminar (FYS) 2016: Faculty-based and Learning Skills Modules
The First Year Seminar (FYS) is currently on-going and has entered its second phase with the beginning of the ‘Learning Skills’ module on the 25th October 2016. FYS is one of the vital components in the High Impact Educational Practice (HIEPs) program for all the higher institutions in Malaysia put forth by the Ministry of Education. The FYS started with the Faculty-based Module which include courses such as My Study Plan, Academic Survival Kit, Student Chapter and My Future Career. The Faculty-based Module was successfully carried out from Week 1 and Week 7. The Learning Skills Module consists of courses such as Let’s Write, Let’s Speak, Say No to Copy & Paste (Plagiarism), Time Management, Power Presentations, Let’s Go around the World and much more. The Learning Skills Module will commence until 16th December 2016 (Week 14). The participation of the first year students in the FYS has been extremely positive as most of the courses were fully booked by the students. Students are advised to check on the time and venues of each of the courses offered so that it will not conflict with other registered subjects. Students are also encouraged to look at the FYS E-Book provided in Students e-community for more information on the courses offered. They are reminded to fill in the Generic Skills survey and the FYS 2016 Evaluation Survey on the PBMSK portal after they have successfully attended any of the courses registered.
