10 December 2017- International students enrolled in UHF1161: Malay For Beginners and UHF2161: Malay For Intermediate held a Weekly Lecture Presentation at Astaka UMP Gambang campus. The presentation entitled, "Seronoknya Berbicara Bahasa Melayu (Speaking in Malay Language is Fun!)." The program was attended by 79 undergraduate students majoring in various fields under the care of their Malay Language instructors: Ms. Juwairiah Osman and Ms. Jamilah Bebe Mohamed.
The program also invited professional judges from the Centre for Modern Language and Communication Center, UMP, Ms. Yanti Salina Shaari and Ms. Anis Nabilla Ahmad to assess the creativity and gravity of the presentation. This effort is aimed at promoting the Malay language among international students and disseminating its importance to foreigners. The competitions of the program include poetry contest, poetry and dialect, acting, nazam, gurindam, pantun and speech. This program had given an opportunity for students who are nonnative speakers of Malay Language to showcase their creativity and interest in trying to be fluent in national language or Bahasa Melayu. The students involved said that the program was a great way to help them communicate in Malay. It also helped them to continue learning Malay language and at the same time the culture of society in Malaysia to facilitate their learning on campus. Other than that, learning Malay Language also helps them to add their own soft skills for the benefits of their future career prospects. Generally, the students were of the opinion that such programs need to be continued from time to time.
