Why English Matters
Gambang, 19 June 2019 - A talk on “Why English Matters” highlighted the importance of English in today’s globalised industries and how Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC) is commonly used by major leading companies to bench mark English proficiency. Our invited speaker, Mr Ezani Amir, who is the managing director of Eshia and Associates and the country’s representative of Educational Testing Service (ETS) for TOEIC provided insightful information on how TOEIC has been used to hire, place and promote employees. The talk also included rigorous process of creating each test to achieve a fair, valid and reliable assessment of TOEIC. After the talk, TOEIC Listening and Reading Test were administered among 28 candidates from various departments in UMP. TOEIC will not only be integrated in career development programmes but also to stream and upskill UMP staff. Congratulations to everyone involved, mainly TOEIC team from CMLHS and all the candidates.
